TODAY FLOWERS #5

Pleased with rain. It was very dry lately. I am also pleased with rain because I LOVE  rain drops on plants and flowers.Watch the droplets on the first picture ... they look like tiny pearls!

I am curious how strawberries are called in your language.
In my language (Dutch): aardbeien.

Blij met regen. Het was erg droog de laatste tijd. Ik ben er ook blij mee omdat ik zo houd van regendruppels op planten en bloemen. Kijk maar eens naar de druppels op de eerste foto. Het lijken wel kleine pareltjes!

  4. The droplets do make the flowers appear very fresh and lovely!
We need rain where I live right now, but we are also planning a camping trip for the next week ...so I am feeling happy it's not supposed to rain, but I'm being selfish as our flowers and fruit trees really need a good drink!
Also, next week is a national holiday ( Memorial Day) which signifies the official beginning of summer, so people will want to have campfires which are prohibited now because of the dry conditions here.
Here in the eastern part of the U.S the tulips are in full bloom ..they are my husband's favorite and I think they are prettiest when there's droplets of rain on them, roses too.

Ik heb je naam alleen een keer gehoord hier. Komt het in Ned. nu meer voor? Een invitatie voor SEASONS dat begon in maart. I ga nu in't Engels over -gaat nu voor mij veel vlugger:)
SEASONS is about any and every experience during this present season (more than weather, and nature - it could be birthday, festivals, shopping, etc.) The photo link is open from Sunday 12 am to Wednesday 7pm, US Pacific time. Marleen is a regular contributor. I have a Wordpress blog, so it looks a little different.

  21. You led me on an interesting search for the origin for the odd name of strawberry. I found it was earlier known as earthberry. Did the little seed remind one of straw? Were they cultivated under straw?
This site suggests its name may relate to the word "strew" as the plant spreads by spreading (strewing) its rootlets. See
    http://blog.oup.com/2015/04/strawberry-word-origin-etymology/
The double trouble with strawberry is that no other European language has a similar name (one late occurrence in Swedish is of unknown provenance) and that, on the face of it, straw– makes little sense in it.

    1. Thank you so much Kenneth for your comment. You led me on an intersting search too :-) On a Dutch site I've read that atraw is used to protect the flowers and leaves of the strawberry against mold and germs. Also a protection against "splashing" sand when it's raining. So, ik like the English name. Staw had a function :-)

  30. I'm a great fan of strawberries. I eat them on sandwiches with a little powder sugar sprinkled on them. My grandmother was from Holland and said she used to eat strawberries like that when she was a little girl.
Nice to catch up with what you've been doing. : )
