Yummm! Old wives' cake

Thanks for all the GOOD WISHES! Today's my first morning without fever. It's still May holidays and my son is playing Minecraft. I put the windows open and enjoyed the sunlight and the sound of the titmice around my home. Maybe they have a nest in the old nesting box to the wall!

Photo Mosaic
When I had finished sorting the laundry, I made my first photo mosaic (or collage) with the help of foter.com.

Old wives' cake
I show my ontbijtkoek (spiced cake) and my favorite biscuit tin. Do you like this one? The name of this cake is: old wives' cake ;-) It is flavored with aniseed. This cake is traditionally served at breakfast with a thick layer of butter on top. Cookies or cake will never be a dessert here in the Netherlands!

For my son I served it as sort of snack (without butter because he hates butter).

If you wanna play some Minecraft,  eat also your old wives' cake!

  1. Hula la, YES!!! I would like to show you my papers houses this week.

    1. Ja, vind ik ook! Maar meestal heb ik de gewone ontbijtkoek, Eve.

  3. Flu is no good -- glad you are feeling better. The breakfast cake looks good -- I would love it slathered in butter, but your son is probably lucky he doesn't like it (healthier without it I'm sure).

  6. Even if you're recuperating from flu, how is exciting to be indoors making collages, precious compositions and delighting with wonderful cookies. Good to know that you are improving...

  7. Hope you are feeling better now. I like your comment that cookies and cake would never be dessert in the Netherlands, how different we view these tasty sweets.
We once had exchange students from France for breakfast and we went all out with a big English spread of eggs, bacon, toast etc. and they couldn't believe it! :-)

  8. I'm so sorry you've been sick with the flu...and also sorry I don't visit you often enough. Life....really gets in the way. I'm re-thinking a few things and prayerfully considering how I can change around my blog, time, etc. Looking forward to reconnecting with my "old friends". Happy Wednesday to you, sweet Lady.

  9. Oh I want to come live in the Netherlands if cake is considered breakfast!!!
I want to thank you for sending me a link to this blog, my friend...my internet server is so slow that it was often impossible to translate your other blog. (I wished I spoke Dutch so many times because I was missing out on what was going on in your life.)
Blessings and love to you my dear friend. ~Lisa

  10. I'm sorry you were sick! I did not know. You say that cookies and cake will never be a dessert in the Netherlands! If that is so, then you are all the winner for it! Sweets are not good for a person, but I do enjoy some. I do not eat a lot of sweets, but I do eat some. Health wise, they are not good. Your Old Wives' Cake reminds me of our sweet breads here, like banana bread or pumpkin bread. But maybe I misunderstood what you wrote.... Maybe you meant it is not dessert, but the main meal!!! Ha ha ha!
