Fence around the Military War Cemetery

Today we went to our Military War Cemetery Grebbeberg  (10 minutes by car). The cemetery has a special significance because it is located exactly at the point in the Netherlands where the fiercest fighting took place during the Second World. More than 400 of the military interred here fell during the Battle of the Grebbeberg.

The forest on the hillside is so beautiful and so peaceful. You can not imagine the Germans and the Dutch were fighting here. But the cemetery says it all.

Since 1946, this cemetery serves as a national memorial site. Here the military memorial ceremony held on Remembrance of the Dead, 4 May. Every year again (yesterday). Today I took a picture of the fence, around the military cemetery.

Especially for all lovers of fences and freedom!

    Wow....not only beautiful...but, a poignant series of images. I'd love to walk around in there myself. Cemeteries are fascinating...history, genealogy, and insight of people's lives.

    It's lovely, but it is also very sobering and sad! and it was all so unnecessary had the Golden Rule been lived. If only the world would learn from history.
