Als de zon niet schijnt, als het nevelig is en je een heuvel opklimt... en je ziet dan opeens overal spinnenwebje in de bomen. Dan wordt je wandeling toch nog leuk.
Het is nooit saai in het bos.
Ik houd niet zo van spinnen.
Maar hun web vind ik prachtig.
Vandaag las ik er over in een ingewikkeld artikel hoe die kleine beestjes een web bouwen.
5 web-weetjes
- Een hangmatweb is nooit echt ‘af’. De spin bouwt er stukje voor stukje aan verder en kan daar dagen mee doorgaan. In het onderzoek zelfs tot zeven dagen.
- Niet alle draden hebben dezelfde taak. Eerst komen de stevige draagdraden; daartussen legt de spin andere, kleverige draden waarmee ze haar prooi vangt.
- Tijdens het bouwen gebruikt ze één achterpoot om haar eigen draad vast te houden, terwijl ze verder loopt en nieuwe draad achter zich laat.
- Een belangrijke draad krijgt soms meteen een versteviging. De spin loopt er opnieuw overheen en legt er nog een draad naast: dubbel uitgevoerd dus.
- En bouwen betekent héél veel heen en weer lopen. Eén spin legde tijdens slechts twaalf minuten bouwen 8,52 meter af volgens de onderzoekers.
Dus ja: de volgende keer kijk ik toch anders naar zo’n web.
Niet alleen: mooi met al die dauw.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenI remember a day a few years ago when we went to a Hungarian Grey cattle exhibition and fair. Yes, they are magnificent animals.
We were traveling to that place through November fog and I really liked that. When we arrived, instead of the powerful animals, the first things that caught my eyes were beautiful spiderwebs. They were strung between branches and leaves, adorned with pearls of dew formed from the fog. What a contrast between those mighty animals and the delicate spiderwebs!

Cobwebs can be beautiful, but I do dislike it when I walk into one and it touches my face. Cobwebs are so intricately made. It's astounding to think of the detail God created in spiders.
