MINIATURE SPRUCE TREES

Miniatuur sparretjes!

In the garden of our holiday cottage, in the middle of the forest stood a tall spruce. I picked up some pine cone from the forest floor and pulled out seeds. And look: five months later I have a few small spruce trees.

Pine (or spruce) trees grow best with plenty of sun, but young seedlings are susceptible to damage during the hottest part of the day. Place the seedling somewhere it will be shaded. Source: Growing Pine Trees from Seeds

So, that's what I did. I put my small spruce trees in the shadow. It will be very hot today and in the coming days. The previous temperature record is 38.6 degrees (1944).

  10. I can't believe the temperatures in The Netherlands this week! This morning I heard that Eindhoven was expecting 39-40 degrees! That's nuts! I expect that in summer in Adelaide (South Australia) but not in The Netherlands and Belgium. Stay cool and good luck with your little saplings.

    Groetjes Irma
