Beauty in Nature | Good Fences #6

On a Saturday in May we made a beautiful bike ride along Het Valleikanaal. The aim of  this canal is the drainage of the Gelderse Valley to prevent flooding. A part of the canal (between our village and the town of Rhenen) is very, very old. It was dug out dug during the Middle Ages and named: Bisschop David Grift. Popularly: The Grift.

Wij zeggen altijd: De Grift.

We paused to eat a banana and drink some juice. I cooled my burning feet in the cold water. It was really warm that day. My husband took pictures of me and also pics of the sturdy fencing on the weir Veenkampen. Special for The Good Fences Link-Up :-) On the pictures you can see the water on both sides of the small weir.

Speciaal voor Good Fences link-up.

We also saw beautiful insects above the water.  I never seen before banded demoiselles. The male has translucent wings which each have a broad, dark iridescent blue-black spot. The body can be a metallic blue and we were so surprised! My husband took a photo but it isn't a close up. So ... seek the blue banded demoiselle on the picture below! My son later told me that he has had such a bug on his arm in the schoolyard. He was very frightened for it and hit him away.

I think every country has its own beautiful places in nature. Sometimes not far from our homes ... What is your favorite place?

    1. Thanks. At first I thought the photo was unsuccessful, Tanya. Through the strange white haze on the water. Later I saw that I had caught pollen :-)

  9. What beautiful photos. And that swan is exquisite. May I save it in my photos? It would be difficult for me to say my favorite place. I too have found beauty everywhere we have traveled. Each one really does have its own unique beauty.

  26. A great post and a lovely bike ride you took. It is always lovely to dip ones feet into cool water on a hot day. Your photos are lovely, and seeing the swan and its reflection, perfection :) I felt something land on my neck yesterday in the garden. Instinctively I brushed it away and stunned a poor bumble bee. It was on the ground walking around thankfully, probably wondering what on earth was that? :) I told it I was very grateful it didn't sting me.
