Pyramid of Austerlitz

Somewhere in The Netherlands Napoleon's soldiers built a real pyramid. It is made of earth, covered with grass and 36 metres high. Atop the pyramid you can see a stone obelisk. General Marmont, commander of the French-Batavian army, was a great admirer of Napoleon and built the monument in 1804 as a tribute.

Zo hoog

Good Fences :-)
Near the pyramid is a visitor centre interpreting the period of French rule in the Netherlands. My husband an I climbed to the top of the pyramid. So glad my hip injury has healed now. Thank you, LORD! So I can show you the high staircase with handrail of COR-TEN steel (rust-like appearance). In a flat country like Netherlands a pyramid of such gigantic dimensions would appear to be a veritable mountain :-)

Ver kijken!
We konden heel ver kijken.

Do you see the city behind the trees?

Erg leuk. Je moet wel voor elke attractie betalen.

  7. Incredible!

But why did Napoleon chose a pyramid to build?

  8. That is a very impressive pyramid; I know that Napoleon was very interested in Egypt so that is appropriate. I came over from Delvalina's blog to say hi.

  11. How fun that they built that Pyramid there. Not something one sees everyday. The red/white fencing went well with the green of the pyramid. So glad you were able to climb to the top. Also liked your stair shot. Great perspective.

Thank you so much for commenting on my blog. To answer a couple of your questions:
'Mazal Tov' is a direct translation of the Hebrew (not Yiddish). There are several ways of writing it in English, but I think this is the most 'correct'.
I use both scissors and a scalpel for my work. Scissors for the curves and larger pieces, a scalpel for the more delicate bits and for papercutting.

  23. Dearest Jedidja; Pyramid of Austerlitz looks unique and love to learn the history of your country♪ The staircase does look high and I'm happy to hear that your injury got better. Oh our country is mountainous and my house located high place where you need car to go anywhere, I wonder how many more years my husband can drive p:-)
