My Favorite Houseplant

Days can be so gloomy and gray in Januari. That's why I bought two flowering houseplants. I took pictures for my blog and I hope you like me new plants. I put them carefully on the floor in front of the piano for a nice background.

Nieuwe plantjes
Het kan zo sombertjes zijn in januari. Daarom kocht ik twee planten met veel bloemetjes. Ik zette de potjes op de grond voor de piano. Een zwarte achtergrond is mooi voor de foto, dacht ik.

When I viewed the pictures I suddenly saw myself on it. That was funny, haha ... I made quickly another photo of my reflection.

Spiegelbeeld
Toen ik de foto's bekeek zag ik opeens ook mezelf. Dat was grappig. Ik maakt gauw nog een echte foto van mijn spiegelbeeld.

African Violet
In Dutch this plant is called Kaaps viooltje. In English African violet (?) Plants can be divided into smaller daughter plants or even grown from leaf cuttings. I like them. And they are not expensive. Two euros for a plant. Read HERE more about my favorite houseplant!

  4. Beautiful plants with beautiful colours. I like Jade plants and cactus. We have a jade plant that has grown pretty well since we moved here. A friend gave it too us when we moved from Killybegs last year.

  5. That is a beautiful flower! I looked it up, and found that the Latin name for it is "Saintpaulia". In Norwegian it is called "Pauli eye", translated. I feel strongly for that flower since there are four eyes on it, and five petals. More mystical than that you cannot get it!

  6. I am going to try to get a bulb to force this winter. I, too, try to make January a little more bright with flowers. I have Geraniums, Succulents, Ivy and one African Violet. Your blooms are lovely.

  10. These are lovely photos. I like the alone flower on the piano keys the best. During the winter,I will occasionally buy plants or cut flowers, just so I have something different to photograph.

Most I like the last photo.
My favorite house plants are cyclamen. Have a wild form of them in my garden too, blooming in cold wintertime...

  14. I like African violets as well. I have a variety of houseplants. I don't know that I have a favorite, but they do make me happy. I love fresh cut flowers too.
Now outside, that is a different story...I love geraniums, angel wing begonia (which I also have inside), camellias, and roses.

  15. Jedidja, I am the worst at keeping any indoor plant alive. My favorite flower is the yellow rose with blue hydrangeas coming in second. I am sure the flowers do brighten up a dark winter day. Here is is raining and in the 60s...however, Old Man Winter is back next week!! Thanks for responding to my post yesterday...I know many people were surprised that Mr Trump won the election. I pray he will do a good job. We need some change and I think that is why he won. You are right, George Washington was a great president and a good role model for the ones who came after him.

  16. Living in Florida, we don't often feel the need to have houseplants, and the ones we do have are mostly faux! :) These are beautiful, though, and I'm glad they bring some joy to your life. I also like your mirror images!

Re the election: The flag was posted because it's old and faded, and represents, I think, how the promise of the US has become old and faded and is passing away with the election of the orange-headed monster, the sexual predator, the pathological liar, the con man and grifter ... yesterday was a sad day and many of us are literally sick to our stomachs.

I like Philodendron plants. I know they are just green but I like how they grow so long.

  18. This flower reminds me of my Grannie. She had African violet plants all along her windowledge. We used to call them "Grannie's children".
