Early morning cycling, the beauty. Do you love it? I do. I love to see the sun peeking above the horizon. Sharing it with you now.

Het is zo leuk om 's-morgens heel vroeg uit bed te gaan om een eind te fietsen. Vooral op een heldere koude ochtend. De zon als een vuurrode bol boven de horizon, de koude wind die in mijn wangen bijt. Geen geluiden dan vogels, kabbelend water.

FARM DITCHES AND MALLARDS

Biking on early winter morning. Yes, riding a bike over icy roads is a bit tough 😬. But early in the morning I looked up to the sky. It was still dark. I saw some stars "twinkling" in the crystal clear sky. Changing from red to white to blue repeatedly. Amazing. That was the moment I say to myself: you have to see the sunrise!

Even een frisse neus halen. Maar oooh, wat was het glad op sommige weggetjes. Na grijze dagen wilde ik graag een mooie zonsopkomst zien. Toen ik mijn zoon uit bed geroepen had, keek ik door het keukenraam naar buiten. Het was vroeg. Ik zag een paar sterren pinkelen aan de heldere ochtendhemel. Toen besloot ik dat ik zou gaan. Gewoon het Binnenveld in fietsen om de zon op te zien komen. Ik moest er een uurtje voor wachten -  het was nog te vroeg -  maar het was de moeite waard.

WALKING ON FROZEN BRIDGE

On the border between the villages of Veenendaal and Ede (The Netherlands) is a natural border called: The Green Border. It is a beautiful area with lots of water, marsh and nice plank bridges. I wrote about it HERE. 

I walked carefully, very carefully over the frozen bridge. To my surprise the bridge was not slippery but the wooden planks were cracking under my snow boots and I did not like that. So I went halfway and took pictures from the magnificent winter world around me.

De Groene Grens is mooi natuurreservaat tussen Veenendaal en Ede. Ik schreef er al eerder over. Dat bericht kun je HIER lezen. Toen was het herfst. Nu zag het er zo anders uit. Ik durfde bijna niet op de brug te lopen. Voorzichtig proberen maar. Tot mijn verrassing was de brug niet glad. Maar het hout kraakte heel erg en dat vond ik eng.

Ik was er helemaal alleen en stel je voor dat ... Ik liep tot halverwege de brug en maakt foto's van de prachtige winterwereld om me heen. Geniet je mee? Toen ik de brug afliep maakte ik onderstaande foto. En daaronder: mijn fiets.

WINTER SUNRISE

Beautiful, beautiful world! Today I experienced such an amazing sunrise over the frozen meadows. I parked my bike against an old tree and discovered a new walking path along the water. And a nice picnic table!

Mooi, mooi, mooi! Wat een prachtige natuur! Ik heb me staan verwonderen over de glinsterende winterpracht om me heen. Geweldige start van de dag. Zoals iemand zei op mijn Instagram (Henny): "Ja, daar sta je dan als mens...te genieten van die wondervolle schoonheid!

Ik heb nog veel meer foto's. Die wil ik ook graag delen. Maar niet te veel in één keer. Dit plekje had ik nog niet ontdekt. Als het warmer wordt wil ik hier nog een keer heen met een vriendin of met mijn man. Brood mee en lekker kletsen. Of genieten van de natuur. Of allebei.

I have taken more photos. I'll share them later. I like the picnic table! When spring arrives, I want to have lunch here with my husband or one of my friends. This is the best picnic spot 😍

The ice wasn't thick enough. I could not stand on it. My boots were cracking through it. But I made some pics. Do you also love the sound of cracking ice?

Als kind probeerde ik altijd het ijs van de sloot voor ons huis uit. Hoe vaak ik niet met natte sokken thuis kwam... Mijn moeder boos natuurlijk. Dat gevoel kwam terug toen ik keek hoe dik het ijs was. Het water was in ieder geval niet diep. En het kraken... leuk!

SUNRISE BIKING

I was biking for 1.5 hour to see the sunrise, the golden reeds along the water and the grazing sheep in the frozen pastures. Wandering between the lapwings (why are they here?) white herons, jackdaws, hares, pheasants and black cormorants. What a beautiful, beautiful cold morning!

Vanmorgen vroeg kleedde me warm aan. Rond achten zat ik op de fiets. Op de foto’s zie je hoe mooi het was. En hoe koud. Het was genieten! Alleen met mezelf, de stilte, de natuur, het winterseizoen en God. En schapen! Die schapen vond ik zo leuk.

En thuis was er koffie. Speciale koffie omdat het zo koud was. Een latte met een heel klein scheutje  licor 43 plus en een snufje kaneel. Warm worden bij de kachel.

• Wat voor soort koffie vindt jij lekker? Of GEEN koffie voor jou?

Homemade Spanish coffee ⇭

Well (almost Spanish). No whipped cream for me, I used milk and just a little, little bit of liqueur. I added cinnamon, because I love cinnamon in my winter coffee.

Yes, the sun was finally shining 🌞

Eindelijk zon! Mijn man zijn: waarom ga je niet fietsen. Dat hielp me en ik was binnen no time weg. Ik fietste anderhalf uur in het rond en genoot zo van het zonlicht en de zachte temperatuur. Toen ik terugkwam was mijn man de boom aan het snoeien. En hij had ook de rozen en de lavendel winterklaar gemaakt. In de keuken stond een bosje laatste lavendel op mij te wachten. Die had hij voor mij afgesneden. Serieus, er bloeide nog lavendel in de tuin!

Almost at home, I saw these beautiful white flowers. I got off my bike to photograph them. I love the golden-yellow stamens round the green, pin-eyed centre. You too?

THE SMELL OF LAVENDER...

When I came back, my husband was pruning our Japanese cherry. He'd also pruned our roses and lavender. In the kitchen I saw to my surprise a bouquet on the table (in a wine glass). So sweet, my husband had carefully picked the last lavender for me. The smell of lavender is very relaxing for me and he knows I love it.

😲 Seriously, a few lavender bushes bloomed in the garden. It is December!

Cycling at Sunset

After doing her homework my daughter often cycles a bit in our area. This week she made beautiful pictures of the sunset. With her phone. She sent them to me because she knows how I love sunsets! I do not like that she is cycling through the dark. But ok, I'm happy with these pictures ..

Na het maken van haar huiswerk mijn dochter fietst vaak een stukje in onze omgeving. Even een luchtje scheppen. Deze week zij maakte mooie foto's van de zonsondergang. Met haar telefoon. Ze stuurde ze naar mij omdat ze weet hoeveel ik houd van mooie luchten.
