BUNCH OF TULIPS

February. Mild weather in The Netherlands. Despite that we still have to wait for the tulips in our gardens. My husband bought tulips for me in the store. On the pic below the sun is shining through our large window and it makes my tulips even more beautiful than they already are.

Geen tulpen in de tuin  nog. Maar wel op de tafel. Wat fleurt dat de boel op. Vooral als de zon erop schijnt. Ze zijn ook heel erg fotogeniek. Ik vind het erg leuk om ze te fotograferen en neem daar rustig een half uurtje de tijd voor. Ik deel een paar foto's uit mijn tulpenserie. Geniet ervan!

BIRD HITS A WINDOW

Een vogel tegen mijn raam. Ik vloog naar buiten om te kijken. Helemaal dizzy zat er een kleine vogel op de stoep. Ik maakte gauw een foto. Ik kon hem zelfs even aaien. Hij knipperde met zijn zwarte oogjes en opeens vloog hij weg.

Thump! A bird against my window. O no... I ran outside and saw a small bird sitting on the sidewalk. No blood. I took a picture. I could even touch him. So soft. He suddenly flew away and sat down on a withered stem of my sunflower.

ANTON PIECK PUZZLE FOR WINTER SEASON

My hubby bought an Anton Pieck jigsaw puzzle for the coming winter season.

Anton Pieck is the most famous Dutch illustrator from the twentieth century. The past, especially the 19th century, inspired Anton Pieck. Anton Pieck is perhaps best known for the Fairytale Forest in the Efteling.

Mijn man kocht een mooie nieuwe puzzel. Nu gaan we onze rustmomentjes pakken en fijn puzzelen. Gewoon omdat het kan.

So many people find completing jigsaw puzzles fascinating and calming.

SUMMER BIRTHDAYS ARE THE BEST

Vandaag is het een blijde zomerdag. De lucht is blauw, de mussen tjilpen in de tuin. Er staat een frisse wind. En in onze tuin wappert de vlaggenlijn. Want onze jongste dochter is vandaag jarig. Ze is nu 19 jaar! Wat is het al weer lang geleden dat ik haar voor het eerst in mijn armen sloot. En in mijn hart. Snel gaat de tijd. 

What a beautiful summer day. The sky is so blue, the sparrows chirp in the garden. I hung garlands in the living room and I in the back yard. Because it is our daughter's birthday. Summer birthdays are the best. Moniek (Monica Deborah) is 19 now

SNAIL EATING SUNFLOWER

Vanmorgen ging ik de tuin in en toen zag ik heel veel slakken op mijn zonnebloemplanten. Ze deden zich te goed aan de bladeren. Niet leuk. Op Facebook vroeg ik of mensen een tip wisten. En ik kreeg een heleboel leuke tips.

• schelpen fijnmaken
• rietje rond de stelen met vaseline erop
• ...

SNAILS EATING SUNFLOWER LEAVES

I was in the garden this morning and discovered a lot of snails on my sunflower plants.  Adept climbers eating my sunflower leaves. I've read that Vaseline smeared round a pot can prevent snails climbing the sides and sharp mulches also deter the leaf munchers. But I think I have to make at trap. A dish, halffilled with beer. What is the best I can do?

Snails are mostly known for their speed, or lack thereof. I love to look at them. They live in almost all habitats, from deserts to deep ocean trenches. I picked my snails from the sunflower plants and put them into a bowl. Later I made a short video and shot some photos.

Leuk om met slakken te spelen 😊

Ondertussen zoek ik toch echt naar een oplossing. Ik heb ze nu in de gemeente tuin gegooid. Ze moeten een heel lange weg afleggen om weer bij mijn zonnebloemen te komen. Maar inmiddels heb ik al weer een tiental andere weggehaald. Zucht.

MY FATHER DIED

Last Wednesday my old father died after a one-year illness (esophageal cancer). Today was the funeral. Now we are home again. I feel deeply sad. The person who has been in my life since the very beginning is gone.

Papa, you were faithful. You fought the fight, finished the race and kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7)

Vorige woensdag stierf mijn vader. Hij had slokdarmkanker. Het is een vreemde,  verdrietige (en toch goede) week geweest. Mijn vader stelde zelf zijn rouwkaart op en gaf ons deze Bijbeltekst mee: "Want deze God is onze God eeuwiglijk en altoos." Ik ben heel verdrietig maar niet als iemand die helemaal geen hoop heeft. Ik zal hem terug zien en dat bemoedigt me.

WESTKAPELLE SEA DIKE

On the Second Day of Christmas we have visited our family in the province of Zeeland. It was amazing. Just before sunset we drove to the sea dike to enjoy the sunset. It was cold. But oh so beautiful! I really love to see the ships on the North Sea.

Westkapelle is a small city on the island Walcheren, in the province Zeeland of the Netherlands. It is on the westernmost tip of Walcheren and is surrounded by the sea on three sides.

Tweede kerstdag gingen we op familiebezoek. Het was heel erg gezellig. We aten Chinees eten en er was ook patat voor de kleintjes.

Voordat de zon onderging reden we nog gauw even naar de dijk om de zee te zien. Prachtig! Die kleuren en al die boten op zee. Het was er wel guur hoor, daar onder aan de dijk (Westkapelle)

THE FIRST SNOW OF WINTER

The first snow of the season fell in The Netherlands and it was enough to blanket the landscape for a couple of hours. The first snow of the winter season is always special. The winter showers moved across our little country. It stopped snowing by midnight in most places.

I love to see my solar cat in the snow 🐱

Today, December 21 is the astronomical first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the darkest day of the year. The day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, when the sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky.

Vandaag is het echt winter, volgens de kalender. En de kortste dag van het jaar. Qua daglicht dan. Ik heb gezellig kaarsjes aangestoken. En ik toch even naar buiten gegaan. Naar de winkel om een cadeautje voor de verjaardag van mijn vriendin te kopen.

I went upstairs last week to photograph the white frozen roofs. But there was condensed water on the window after the night. I still made a photo and I love to see the sun (left) and the mill (right). And of course the nice blue bottle! The bottle reminds me of David's prayer, once: "You counted my wanderings; place my tears in Your flask. Is it not in Your accounting?"

Ik ging ergens vorige week naar boven om vanuit onze dakkapel de wit bevroren daken te fotograferen. Maar het raam was beslagen. Toch is het zo ook een leuke foto geworden. Het flesje herinnert me aan Davids gebed uit de Bijbel. Over tranen die bewaard worden in een flesje of kruik.

SUNFLOWER IN FRONT YARD

Good afternoon! I was in the front yard and oh ... I burned my feet 😉 Do not walk barefoot when it is so hot. outside.  But I was able to made a few photos for my blog. Look how my sunflower is growing next to the (d)rain pipe It is a red sunflower ...  You can see a smaller one growing behind it.

IN DE VOORTUIN

Hallo. Ik was net in onze tuin en brandde bijna mijn voeten aan de stoeptegels. Niet meer op blote "kakkies" lopen dus. Ik wilde graag mijn zonnebloem showen op mijn blog. Eén van de vijf. Hij groeit lekker hard, precies naast de regenpijp. het het is een rode zonnebloem. Zo nieuwsgierig hoe mooi rood ie er uit zal zien, de bloem!

Behind the large one there's a smaller one growing. You hardly see it, I think. But below I share a photo of the stem of this sunflower. Haha, it is funny story. The stem of the sunflower was broken by a hard gust of wind. So I took a patch (right English word?) and put it around the flower stem. And although the leaves already were fading, the sunflower is alive and well now.

GEKNAKT 😞😊

Naast de grote groeit een kleinere zonnebloem. Die kun je bijna niet zien. Maar ik heb wel een foto van de steel. Daar zit een leuk verhaal aan vast. Deze zonnebloem was eigenlijk aan het doodgaan omdat z'n steel geknakt was door een harde rugwind. Ik gaf hem nog één kans en plakte een pleister heel strak om de breuk heen. Hoewel de bladeren al helemaal slap hingen... groeit hij nu weer en doet ie het heel erg goed.

PEEKABOO! BABY BLACKBIRD

A baby blackbird in the garden. He is not afraid. He comes very close... Yes, baby blackbirds usually leave the nest before they can  fly. They hop and scramble their way around  bushes and trees. I love baby blackbirds. Especially the reddish brown colour on their breasts.

EEN JONGE MEREL

Er scharrelt een jonge merel rond in onze tuin. Hij komt erg dichtbij.  Zonet gelezen: jonge merels verlaten hun nest voordat ze echt goed kunnen vliegen. Ik dacht dat hij misschien uit het nest gevallen was. Maar het blijkt de normale gang van zaken te zijn. Wat een prachtige kleuren hebben z'n veren! Toch?

This morning I was sitting in the living room. The door was open... What did I hear? Hop, hop, hop... and there I saw the young blackbird hopping trhough my kitchen.  O no... I was completely surprised and forgot to take a photo.

MEREL IN KEUKEN

Vanmorgen was ik aan het schrijven in de woonkamer. De buitendeur stond open om wat koele lucht binnen te halen. Ik dacht: wat hóór ik toch. Trip...trip, trip op het zeil. Een heel zacht geluidje. Ik stond op om te kijken: daar liep de merel in mijn keuken. Gelukkig hipte hij zelf weer gauw naar buiten 😊

PLAY WITH ME

My daughter works as a nurse and is very, very busy. But in between she creates golden moments with her son. Tuesday she called: Mom I am in the playground!

PLAYING AND EATING ICE CREAM

The playground is two minutes away from my house. I was making lasagna - quickly, quickly in the oven - hurry up to the playground  - to see and embrace my daughter and grandson. And to eat an ice cream. Golden moments!

IK BEN IN DE SPEELTUIN

Mijn dochter nam tussen twee diensten even de tijd voor haar zoontje. Ze belde me op: mam, ik ben in de speeltuin hoor, kom je ook? Ik wilde wel maar was lasagne aan het klaarmaken. Het lukte me om er heen te gaan. Zo gezellig! Elkaar even zien. Samen ijsje eten. Kijk ook even in de zijkant van de blog: daar staan ook nog een foto. Vroeger was ik hier met mijn kinderen. Nu met mijn volwassen dochter en kleinkind. 

Speeltuin de Pol is echt een geweldige speeltuin! Niet duur, gezellig, schone toilet, EHBO, parasols, klein winkeltje, grote zandbak, geweldig springkussen, trampoline voor de kleintjes en nog veel meer.

BARBECUE IN THE FOREST

It was a warm Saterday. And we had a barbecue in the forest. We celebrate my daughter's birthday and also the birthday of her friend. Each and every birthday we have with our loved ones is a gift.

We vierden de verjaardag van onze dochter en haar partner in het bos met een gezellige barbecue. Ik maakte foto's met mijn telefoon. Ze zijn een beetje vaag maar wel leuk om te zien toch? We waren bij elkaar op een gezellige plek, vlakbij Soest (De Bergjes).

Today it is King's official birthday here in the Netherlands. The King's birthday (koningsdag) is known for its nationwide vrijmarkt (free market), at which we sell sell our used items.

STAR GLOBE

On the free market I bought a detailed mini star globe with Dutch and Latin text, for two euros and fifty cents. Small but nice. Lights up with stars and reflects to surrounding walls. So tonight I fall asleep in the middle of the Galaxy!

KLEEDJESMARKT

Deze sterrenbol is in Nederland niet meer verkrijgbaar. Maar wel op de kleedjesmarkt. Ik verzamel wereldbollen maar deze vond ik ook erg leuk. En dat voor 2,50. Gedetailleerde mini sterrenglobe met Nederlandse en Latijnse tekst. Onverlicht zijn alleen de sterrenbeelden met namen zichtbaar. Verlicht verschijnen ook alle vaste sterren.
