Welkom Wilkommen Welcome

Today I share a picture of my back door with you. On the window you can read welcome greetings in three languages. I used my chalk window markers for it. The reason? We try to welcome in this way our German student, who's staying a mid week in our house after school hours. She and her classmates are following a special program at my daughter's school.

  • You can read HERE about my daughter. She stayed also a few nights with a host family in Germany in 2016.

The language of communication is English. I think my English sounds like a mixture of English, German and Dutch 😍  But our German student is speaking her English very well!

Welkom
Vandaag deel ik een foto van de achterdeur van ons huis. Op het raam ik heb welkomstgroeten geschreven voor een Duitse student, die een paar dagen in Nederland is. Zij volgt een speciaal programma op de school van mijn dochter. Hoewel Nederlandse studenten Duits leren op school de voertaal is Engels. Mijn Engels is meer mengelmoes van Duits, Nederlands en Engels. Maar onze studente spreekt echt heel goed Engels!

Can you find the German word  for welcome on my window?

  2. That is so kind! :)
You speakers of Germanic languages are very lucky. :) The three words look almost the same. We would say "tervetuloa", something completely different.
    Have a blessed day!

  4. I think I see the German Welcome....my husband's family is German so I am cheating. Your English Welcome is written perfectly!! Have fun with your visitor.

  5. I think that English must be one of the most difficult languages to master given all its idiosyncrasies. You're doing very well, however!

  6. I agree with Lowell, the English language is most difficult as too many of the same spelled words have different meanings. I think the German Welcome is Welkom. Have a day of blessings my friend.

  13. How lovely! Isn't the idea that you communicate in Dutch whilst in Holland, and your daughter in German whilst in Germany?

    1. No :-) Only English. But ... it is helpful to say it in Dutch or German sometimes.
