Welkom Wilkommen Welcome

Today I share a picture of my back door with you. On the window you can read welcome greetings in three languages. I used my chalk window markers for it. The reason? We try to welcome in this way our German student, who's staying a mid week in our house after school hours. She and her classmates are following a special program at my daughter's school.

• You can read HERE about my daughter. She stayed also a few nights with a host family in Germany in 2016. 

The language of communication is English. I think my English sounds like a mixture of English, German and Dutch 😍  But our German student is speaking her English very well!

Vandaag deel ik een foto van de achterdeur van ons huis. Op het raam ik heb welkomstgroeten geschreven voor een Duitse student, die een paar dagen in Nederland is. Zij volgt een speciaal programma op de school van mijn dochter. Hoewel Nederlandse studenten Duits leren op school de voertaal is Engels. Mijn Engels is meer mengelmoes van Duits, Nederlands en Engels. Maar onze studente spreekt echt heel goed Engels!

I love the grey days of autumn

The grey days of autumn have definitely come in the Netherlands. Rain and drizzle. But we have also seen the rainbow and that brightens up my grey days.

Eindelijk herfst hier! Het regent en het miezert. Het is grijs en het is mistig. Maar tussendoor waren er felle opklaringen en de regenboog was echt een toegift! Zag jij hem ook?

In this time of the year I am making 3-D cards with a winter theme. That will brighten and lighten also my grey days. I love to spend my spare time making cards. It is good for me to sit down (after my mother's death) in my chair by the fireplace ... making cards and reflect. I wish I could inspire you to create something beautiful too.

What to do with chestnuts?

From my photo archive. Making cobwebs in September. All you need: chestnuts, kebab skewers and colorful wool. Fun isn't it?

 

Uit m'n fotoarchief. Kastanjes rapen met de kinderen onder de oude, hoge kastanjeboom en spinnenwebben maken. Mooie herinneringen heb ik eraan. Alles wat we nodig hadden: een kastanje, satéprikkers en restjes wol. Leuk hè!

As wise as an owl

Do you like owls and wood carvings? I do. So, I love this owl carved from a single tree trunk. It stands next to the cottage with the name: Tawny owl.

Hou jij van uilen en van houtsnijwerk? Ik wel. Daarom vind ik deze uil, gesneden uit een enkele boomstam zo leuk. Hij staat naast een vakantiehuisje met de naam: Bosuil

In lots of stories and myths, owls were associated with wisdom. So being "as wise as an owl" basically means you are as smart as a mythical owl genius ;-)

But as follower of Jesus I love this Scripture above all ancient myths: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”

Time to craft

Now I am ill again  ... and after a long night I take the time to craft. I sit down my old leather chair.  I'm drinking tea and I am making little paper houses. So grateful for simple pain medication and clear water for tea.

Crafting each day keeps the crazy away, I read on Pinterest. It's a pins that make me laugh. Crafting? Me? Only when I am ill!

I took pictures of my tea an my tea bag. On the small label I read this in Dutch: Hoe was je dag? That means: How was your day? Funny, right? Seriously, I love this tea labels with short texts.
