Hundred Floating Umbrellas

The business owners of the Weerstraat in the city of Tiel had an idea to make the street more attractive. First there was the idea to hang old lampshades over it. But now you can see  hundred floating umbrellas! So cute.

Honderd Paraplu's
De ondernemers van één van de straten in Tiel wilden hun straat graag opleuken. Eerst speelden ze met het idee van lampenkappen. En nu hangen er honderd vrolijke paraplu's in de Weerstraat. Wel grappig toch?

Historic Dutch School Poster

Since 1911 a Dutch publishing company gave out a series of school posters around the national history of the Netherlands. They were meant to raise historical awareness among the school children. On my photo you can see one of them, called: in a medieval monastery. Made by J.H. Isings. (Size: 79 x 107 cm).  

Oude schoolplaat
Er bestaat een serie oude schoolplaten. Herinner jij ze nog? Zij werden gemaakt om ons meer historisch besef te geven. Ik herinner me verschillende platen. Blij verrast toen ik deze bij de kringloop zag staan. Ik kon hem meenemen voor vijf euro. Hij is gemaakt door J.H. Isings

I love the Middle Ages
I saw this old school poster in the thrift store and I bought it. I still like this one and I will hang it on the wall of my writing room.  I love writing about the Middle Ages. Link to my book.

Ik houd van de Middeleeuwen
Het ding was veel te groot om hem mee te nemen op de fiets. Dus haalden we hem vanmorgen op met de auto. De poster laat een Middeleeuws klooster zien. Ik kan me deze niet herinneren. Misschien komt dat om hij niet getoond werd op onze school omdat te Rooms was :-) Ik hang hem in mijn schrijfkamer omdat ik dol ben op de (vroege) Middeleeuwen. Daarom schreef ik er een boek over!

The Night Watch | Amsterdam

I've never been there. I haven't seen this famous painting. So I asked my daughter to photograph The Night Watch. Monday she went to Amsterdam and visited the Rijksmuseum with her classmates (on the photo Mo is looking to: Militia Company of District II, known as the ‘Night Watch’, Rembrandt van Rijn, 1642).

De Nachtwacht
Ik heb de nachtwacht nog nooit gezien. Jij wel? Daarom vroeg ik of mijn dochter er een foto van wilde maken. Gelukkig mocht dat, als ze niet zouden "flitsen".  Een vriendin nam deze foto van Mo, terwijl ze naar dit wereldberoemde schilderij stond te kijken. Echt leuk. Ik wil zelf ook een keertje naar het Rijksmuseum. Ooit ...

The Night Wacht in the Rijksmuseum

I also got a picture of the Cuypers Library. The Cuypers Library is the largest and oldest art historical library of the Netherlands. Visitors, students and art historians alike are welcome to use the library to delve deeper into the Rijksmuseum collection.

Cuypersbibliotheek.
Ik kreeg ook een foto doorgestuurd van de Cuypersbibliotheek. De Cuypersbibliotheek is de grootste en oudste kunsthistorische bibliotheek van Nederland. Bezoekers, studenten en kunsthistorici kunnen zich hier verdiepen in de collectie van het Rijksmuseum. (er zijn zelfs iPads beschikbaar). Mo vertelde dat ze muisstil moesten zijn in de bibliotheek!

As wise as an owl

Do you like owls and wood carvings? I do. So, I love this owl carved from a single tree trunk. It stands next to the cottage with the name: Tawny owl.

Hou jij van uilen en van houtsnijwerk? Ik wel. Daarom vind ik deze uil, gesneden uit een enkele boomstam zo leuk. Hij staat naast een vakantiehuisje met de naam: Bosuil

In lots of stories and myths, owls were associated with wisdom. So being "as wise as an owl" basically means you are as smart as a mythical owl genius ;-)

But as follower of Jesus I love this Scripture above all ancient myths: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”
