DANCING TREES

Yesterday I drove by car to the Veluwe to walk there in the forest. This forest has a nickname: the forest with the dancing trees. Several walks are possible and it is a pleasure to walk there.

Gisteren ben ik eindelijk naar de dansende bomen wezen kijken. Dit bos stond op mijn lijstje. Ik liep DEZE rode paaltjes route van Staatsbosbeheer. Het was prachtig. 

RED SQUIRREL IN GARDEN

Terwijl ik zat te werken in de tuin, zag ik opeens een kleine rode eekhoorn. Ik liep heel voorzichtig naar hem toe en maakte wat foto's

While I was working in the garden, I suddenly saw a small red squirrel. I approached him very carefully and took some pictures.

WATCH THE BIRDS

Zie je me op de foto? Ik maakt foto's van het plafond. De eetkamer in kasteel Cannenburgh heeft een indrukwekkend 17e-eeuws balkenplafond dat met wolken en vogels beschilderd is. Ik vond het geweldig om te zien. 

You see me in the picture? I take pictures of the ceiling. The dining room in the Cannenburgh Castle has an impressive 17th-century beamed ceiling, painted with clouds and birds. Amazing.

Ik stel me zo voor dat ik daar zit te eten met de familie. Omdat het zo lang duurt ga ik maar vogeltjes kijken... boven mijn hoofd.

DUTCH CANNENBURGH CASTLE

Ik hou van kastelen. Gisteren bezochten we kasteel Cannenburgh In Vaassen. Ik was er nog nooit geweest en zal er komende keren wat foto's van laten zien. Nu alleen de buitenkant. Dit kasteel is trouwens een van de 7 opengestelde kastelen van Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen. Lees HIER meer over dit kasteel.

I like castles. Yesterday we visited Cannenburgh Castle In Vaassen. I'd never been there before and will show some pictures of the interior in my next posts. I will take you back to the 18th century, OK?

HOW TALL IS THE SUNFLOWER?

Bij mijn zus en zwager in de tuin staat de meest hoge zonnebloemen die ik ook ik gezien heb: 3,70 meter hoog. Om de zonnebloem op te binden was de huishoudtrap te kort en moest mijn zwager een ladder gebruiken. Heb jij ooit zo'n hoge zonnebloem gezien?

In the garden of my sister and brother in law you can find the most high sunflowers I have ever seen:3,70 ( I think that is 12ft ?) My brother in law used a ladder to tie the stem firmly.

Ik kreeg deze foto's van mijn zus om te delen op mijn blog. De zonnebloem kreeg een halve emmer water per dag. Plus speciale voeding: turbovoeding via Huyskweker. De meststoffen zijn samengesteld uit onmisbare voedingselementen. Dit geeft de zonnebloemen kracht om moeiteloos door te bloeien tot het najaar.

I got these photos from my sister to share on my blog. They gave the sunflowers half a bucket of water a day. And special Plant Food. Have you ever seen such a tall sunflower?

BUDAPEST GREAT SYNAGOGUE

Mijn dochter stuurde me foto's van haar bezoekje aan de grote synagoge van Boedapest. Ik mag ze delen. Ze  schreef:

"We zijn nu bij de grootste synagoge van Europa. Wat je hier ziet (foto 3) is de bekende kandelaar. Op elke tak zitten bladeren met daarop de namen van de omgekomen Joden, tijdens de hongersnood en de oorlog. het waren er 600.000. Dus 10 procent van alle Joden die omkwamen tijdens de holocaust kwam uit Hongarije."

Moniek sent me pictures of her (their) visit to the great synagogue in Budapest. I would like to share them on my blog. For the synagogue it is advisable to wear knee length dress/skirt or trousers. R. wore a kipah and Moniek wore a long skirt over her shorts. She was deeply impressed by the synagogue and history.

Hieronder: Mo bij de Levensboom (een omgekeerde menora) met 4000 blaadjes met daarop de namen van de 600.000 in de Tweede Wereldoorlog vermoorde Joden uit Hongarije. Op de dubbele zwarte boog staat: Is er een grotere pijn dan die van mij?

In 1944, as a part of the Eichmann-plan, 70,000 Jews were relocated to the Ghetto of Pest. Until 18 January 1945, when the Russians liberated the ghetto, around 8,000 to 10,000 people had died, although, one part of the deceased were transferred to the Kozma Street Cemetery, but 2,000 people were buried in the makeshift cemetery. Zoons gingen met de bus naar Aken. Ze stuurden een paar foto's van de Dom van Aken. 

My sons went to Aachen in Germany by bus (20 minutes). They sent a few pictures of the Aachen Cathedral.

THE GEUL RIVER

We gingen op zoek naar het riviertje de Geul. Ik wilde zo graag de Geul een keer zien. En we vonden hem in Mechelen.

De Geul is een rivier die ontspringt in België bij de Cycloopstenen aan de Duitse grens. Ze verlaat België bij Sippenaeken en komt bij Cottessen Nederland binnen. Boven Itteren mondt ze uit in de Maas. (Bron: Wikipedia)

Searching for the Geul River. The Geul is a river in Belgium and in the Netherlands, where it is a right-bank tributary to the river Meuse. below you see a nice house. Timber framing and "post-and-beam" construction are traditional methods of building with heavy timbers, creating structures using squared-off and carefully fitted and joined timbers with joints secured by large wooden pegs. It is commonplace in wooden buildings through the 19th century. The country most known for this kind of architecture is Germany. But also in The Netherlands! 

Dit is echt een heerlijk stukje Nederland.

HELLO SUNSHINE!

Gisteren heb ik mijn best gedaan om het huis koel te houden. Gisteravond voor het eerst de tuin gesproeid en vandaag merk ik dat de warmte naar binnen komt. Er is geen wolkje te zien: strakblauwe lucht en felle zon. Het Nationaal Hitteplan is inmiddels van kracht en het KNMI heeft code oranje afgekondigd. 

🌻 Mijn eerste zonnebloem is bijna uitgebloeid. Gelukkig heb ik nog wat anderen staan. De lavendel ziet er ook heel treurig uit. Tijd om te snoeien?

 I always think of the Netherlands as being in a constant battle with water, so it almost seems odd that you needed rain!

It is so true, we are in a constant battle with water ... but  our country, usually wet, now invests in dealing with drought. The coming days are going to be extremely hot again with some places possibly even reaching highs of 40C! Read what Mina Solank is writing about code red for Dutch railways.

Hello Sunshine

Ik pas me aan. We hebben een statiefventilator, zoiets als deze. Die is van mijn ouders geweest en ik heb hem meegenomen toen we het huis leeg moesten ruimen, na het overlijden van mijn vader. Het is een fijn ding.

BEHIND THE HOUSE

Behind the house you can see my other sunflowers, growing in large flowerpots. Every day the leaves hang down limply (good English?) and I there is already sun damage. That's why I'm busy with the watering can. 

Sunburn damage

Achter het huis staan zonnebloemen in een bloempot. Iedere keer hangen de bladeren slap en er is ook al zonneschade te zien. Daarom druk in de weer met de watergieter. En omdat het zo lekker is giet ik ook water over mijn voeten natuurlijk.

COOL DOWN HOT FEET

And because the water is so fresh I also pour water on my feet. Of course.
